Human and Social Sciences

Human and Social Sciences
is an outcomes-based course that meets all the unit standards identified by SAQA at NQF 1 for this learning area. A balance between project work and interactive group activities ensures that this course contributes to a thorough understanding of the forces that shape us and the society in which we live.

The course is presented in two parts. The first part, Changes, Challenges and Development takes learners from an understanding of the communities in which they live, to a broader examination of South African society, changes in our country and the importance of participatory democracy. The second part, Resources, Development and the Environment, concentrates on responsibility for the environment, the balance between conservation and the need for resources, the role of technology and the meaning of sustainable development in South Africa.

This is a course for adult learners involved in ABET programmes and is about people working together with others to contribute to the aspirations and achievements of the wider community, our country and the world in which we live.
