Life Orientation

Meeting all the unit standards identifi ed by SAQA for the Life Orientation learning area at NQF 1, Life Orientation begins by examining social diversity in South Africa, then covers the dynamics and values within the community and the family. It moves on to human relationships, then it focuses on the individual, covering the need for personal awareness and development.

The themes in Life Orientation were chosen for their relevance to the lives and experiences of adult learners and their children. They include, among other things:

° Language and cultural diversity
° Relationships and power
° Sex education and HIV/AIDS
° Dealing with stress
° Domestic abuse
° Individual rights and responsibilities
° Safety and security in the community

This is an outcomes-based course that uses group work and problem solving strategies to deliver the themes that make up this topical learning programme. The course recognises and draws on the knowledge that adults bring with them through their own life experiences, enhancing these to build a better understanding of individuals and their society.
