ABC in African Languages Series

Reading and Writing Skills Workbook

This is the first component of the ABET course in African Languages and provides learners with the initial foundation for reading and writing. Step by step, the workbook guides learners through basic practice in
the correct formation and placement of all letters of the alphabet and numbers from 0 - 31. Easy to follow instructions for the educator ensure that learners receive sound educational assistance as they embark on reading and writing for the first time.

Lesson plans

Set at ABET Levels 1 and 2 in Sepedi, Setswana, isiZulu, isiXhosa and Afrikaans, the lesson plans incorporate the outcomes from the Language, Literacy and Communications Learning Area. An English version of the lesson plans is also available. The lesson plans are bound in files, each one consisting of a list of materials needed in the lesson; preparation required by the educator before the lesson; a short list of intended outcomes to be achieved by the end of the lesson; detailed steps to guide educators and sample resource materials to be used by learners in the lesson.

These lesson plans are suitable for educators who require step-by-step guidance as well as for more creative educators who prefer to draw on existing materials to develop their own lessons.
