Matters
for all of us everywhere: at work, in the street, in shops, banks
and at home. It opens doors to the world of arts and culture,
business and leisure. As a world language, it links us to the
global village.
English
Matters
is a modular, outcomes-based course which allows learners to progress
through the four ABET levels
in the first band of the National Qualifications Framework. The
series contributes towards the achievement of credits for the
General Education and Training Certificate.
The course
complies fully with the unit standards of the Language, Literacy
and Communications Learning Area and uses a cross-curricular approach
that meets the serveral outcomes in the Life Orientation, Human
and Social Sciences and Numeracy and Mathematics Learning Areas.
It can form the core of any integrated learning programme.

The letter and word cards encourage the use of sight, sound and
touch - the more senses involved, the easier it is for learners
to remember the words, its meaning, its spelling and its sound.

Second Language Readers
Set in both urban and rural settings and drawing on African
myths and oral tradition, the stories in these readers range in
focus from community and family issues, belief systems and gender
issues to xenophobia and the plight of street children. The readers
