Letters and Word Cards

The letter and word cards encourage the use of sight, sound and touch - the more senses involved, the easier it is for learners to remember the words, its meaning, its spelling and its sound.

° Letter cards assist learners to build word on their own
° The words on the word cards correspond with the themes in English Matters Level 1
° The words are used to build sentances, which learners then record in their exercise books. Blank cards are also supplied so that learners can write their own words

Set in both urban and rural settings and drawing on African myths and oral tradition, the stories in these readers range in focus from community and family issues, belief systems and gender issues to xenophobia and the plight of street children. The readers have the following features:

° The stories in them were written with input from learner and community groups
